Phoenix Community Transport Projects

We have, for some time, been planning to duplicate the Runner operation in both Markham/Argoed area and Oakdale/Manmoel/Aberbeeg area.

We estimate the cost of setting up and running either of these operations for the first year at £40,000. We have tried to obtain funding for both these projects but to date have not had any success.

The estimated costs could be reduced considerably by providing an almost new bus, as opposed to a new one, but no funding is available for the provision of a second hand bus.

We estimate the operational cost of each service to be of the order of £18,000 per annum. This cost includes Driver Wages and so, we are informed, precludes us from the majority of funding as wages are not an acceptable cost.

We have been working toward building a reserve fund that would finance one of these operations starting in 2009. If you have an opinion as to which route we should consider, or indeed if you think combining the routes would be practical, e-mail us or enter a suggestion here and have your say.
